Demi Lovato Gives First Interview In Over A Year

Demi Lovato has been through a lot since she became famous as a young child star. She's long been open about her struggles with sobriety and body acceptance and things were going great for her for a while. However, she went through a tough period after she was hospitalized for a drug overdose in the summer of 2018. It's been a long road to recovery since then and she's finally ready to talk about it.

The 2018 incident left Lovato in a Los Angeles hospital for over two weeks. Just weeks before the apparent overdose, Lovato admitted to relapsing after years of sobriety. She opened up during the 2019 Teen Vogue summit, where she said she's been through a lot but is a "fighter."

During the summit, the 27-year-old singer said she "wouldn't change the direction of her life" and added that she "loves the person she is today."

"What I see in the mirror (is) someone that's overcome a lot. I’ve been through a lot and I genuinely see a fighter," said Lovato. "I don't see a championship winner in there, but I see a fighter and someone who is going to continue to fight no matter (what) challenges are thrown their way."

She also discussed her progress with body acceptance over the past year.

"A huge thing for me has been body acceptance. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I'm like, 'Oh I do not like what I see.' But in those moments, I don't sit there and dwell on it. I also don't lie to myself," said Lovato.

Lovato has been through so much and it's inspiring to see her continue to work on being the strong and happy woman she deserves to be.
