When Christmas approaches, there are all sorts of wonderful ways to make your home look cozy and festive in anticipation of the big day. But while you’re likely to see some traditional decorations full of nostalgic wonder, it’s also true that some folks like to get creative when the holiday season rolls around.

And in this case, we can take “creative” to mean weird, wacky, and downright silly. Some are adorable, while others might make us laugh a little more nervously, but they all stand out!

This adorably grouchy tree

Apparently, a couple found this misfit tree at the lot and took pity on it. And from that, they made this incredibly charming tribute to Oscar the Grouch, complete with a garbage can and a happy little worm friend.

I think both Charlie Brown and Jim Henson would be proud!

This clever way to work with what you’ve got

One farmer wanted to decorate their property with a big, festive wreath.

So as we can see, they just made a huge tracker tire look the part with some green paint and a big bow. And if that wasn’t cute enough, dig the buckets made to look like silver bells.

Tree decorations but make it fashion

Well, I wouldn’t bother entering the costume contest at the Christmas party if I was up against this piece of holly jolly haute-couture. I have to wonder, though, how are you supposed to power those Christmas lights?

Because it’s not much of a party if you have to stand by an outlet all night.

Even a traditional tree is going to require some modern solutions

Although the pooch looks a little confused as to what the big deal is, that tree just looks too nice to let the dog run wild on it.

I’ve also got to give it up for how colorful that barrier looks. That’s the most Christmasy way to tell someone to keep out I’ve ever seen!

Work with what you have

That may not be what I would’ve imagined making if you threw a bunch of random building materials in front of me, but here we are.

With all the hammering that must have gone into this, it almost seems like it takes as much effort as growing your own tree. It would involve fewer bricks but probably about as much wood.

He’s a mean one, Mr. Grinch

That dastardly Grinch forgot to bring the ladder, so it looks like his plan B to steal Christmas was just to wreck the eavestroughs instead. The song’s right; he is a mean one.

But just like in the movie, it won’t be him who laughs last. Not when they send him the bill to fix this.

What’s wrong with the picture?

Let’s just say that I wouldn’t put money on one of these ornaments making it to next Christmas.

Give up? OK, I’ll tell you. Some wise guy snuck a tomato onto the tree, and it sounds like he’ll have a mess on his hands before anyone notices.

Yes, believe it or not, that is what that’s supposed to be. But if you’re wondering how this mass of feathers that looks like someone glued a bunch of googly eyes on a blobfish fits that description, you might want to look a little closer at how angels are described in the Bible.

Yeah, there’s a reason they were always telling people “be not afraid” when they appeared.

But whether their overbooked Airbnb had more animal friends than they expected or they just had a funny thought, they obviously felt inspired to see how modern parents would deal with this predicament.

And it’s nice to see them make the best of it, though these well-timed Amazon packages from the three wise hipsters on segways probably did a lot to lift their spirits.

In all seriousness, what you see here actually took some real effort. Someone took some branches out of the back and used them to reorient the tree with the help of some wire.

So while it may look like their ceiling was just too low for the tree, the real plan was to make it look like it had come out of Whoville. Pretty creative, huh?

The “Four Horseman” of Christmas.

Honestly, I would have expected to see Santa in here before the nutcracker. But other than that, I’d say everything else here pretty much checks out.

I have to wonder, though. Do they represent different things than the other horsemen or does this person consider “All I Want For Christmas Is You” some kind of pestilence?

Yes, it seems like this year’s festivities are being interrupted by the mysterious tentacles of a giant squid.

So either someone asked Kris Kringle for the Kraken, or something has gone horribly wrong here.

Santa isn’t the only one who wants you to believe

I wonder if this is how Agent Mulder celebrates the Holidays. Granted, there wasn’t usually a lot of celebration going on in The X-Files.

In any case, I would only hope that any visitors from other planets would find this as cute as I do.

It’s hard not to wonder whether they just saved their containers all year for this grand holiday ambition or if this was all possible thanks to one big feast.

In either case, the commitment on display here would’ve been pretty obvious, even without the logo on top.

But since it’s hard to decide whether they look creepier than the giant spider behind them, those people probably aren’t singing along.

Still, any house that has these standing in front of it will definitely stand out!

What better way to get excited for Christmas than showing what a patient’s heart rate looks like the closer the day gets?

Because while there’s something to be said for what looks like the angriest horse I’ve ever seen anyone make, I’m not sure anyone wants whatever’s riding it.

I guess we don’t have to ask what the horse’s problem is because who wants that sinister elf thing sitting on their back?

It gets better the longer you look

The tree and lights adorning this little car are self-explanatory, and you may recognize the lamp from A Christmas Story, but that’s not all.

Because if you’re wondering what the dog is wearing, it’s a homemade version of Ralphie’s bunny suit from the same movie. I’m not sure whether the dog feels any better about it than he did, though.

And it seems there’s some consensus that skeletons are the most festive of the supernatural creatures. After all, just look at the lovely lights this one is putting up!

I hope there are no low bridges on their way home, but I think they’ll have enough problems with those wires we can see in the distance.

Especially since that tree would probably destroy their DIY spoiler they made out of old license plates if something knocked it over. We certainly can’t call this person uncreative…

They were so, so close

Nobody can tell them they didn’t buy a Christmas tree, but I guess they figured we’d get the idea as long as they put an angel on top of it.

And in fairness, I suppose we do. It’s hard to go more minimalist than this, though.

“Chairy Christmas”

It’s been a long time since Pee-wee’s Playhouse was on, but I’m sure Chairy was just as excited about Christmas as she was at any other time of year.

Wait, did whoever do this go to all this trouble just so they could make a “Chairy Christmas” pun? Wow.

It may not be the greenest wreath we’ve seen at Christmastime, but it’s definitely colorful, and I suppose it gets the job done.

I mean, would you rather look at this or those creepy trees made of teeth molds that you see at some dentist offices?

But still, we can’t deny how lovingly those mashed potatoes were made into Santa’s beard and how much ingenuity went into really making this look like the big guy.

They did always describe him as having a cherry nose, but I suppose cherry tomato counts.

Christmas monkeys, anyone?

Even taking into account that they apparently have a couple of unicorns as pets, it’s not exactly hard to understand why Earl and Ethel, the Christmas monkeys, never joined the holiday canon.

I made those names up, by the way. I don’t actually know what’s going on here.

Hopefully, no one has to take a roll off the tree!

To be honest, it’s actually pretty cute to see what this building’s janitorial staff was able to make out of just some toilet paper rolls and a brush.

I’m not sure why they wanted us to look over our shoulders for Santa’s elves. It’s not our fault that we had to take a roll off the tree; they used it all up!

Of course, nothing rings in the holidays like a…Scotch egg?

I mean, I’m not going to fault the level of detail that went into this ornament. It just seems like kind of weird thing to associate with Christmas.

Granted, I’m not in Scotland so maybe I’m just not up on the traditions there. Maybe that’s what Santa gets instead of milk and cookies.

Krampus is a bit on the spookier side

Because while some cultures treat Christmas as simply a time of unalloyed joy, others warn their kids that they may have to deal with someone like Krampus here.

A lump of coal in the stocking isn’t looking so bad now, huh?

Christmas but make it Halloween

Because as we’ve seen, most people who try to blend Halloween and Christmas think that means you have to make Christmas scary.

But this happy little tree shows us even the spooky season can be a perfectly cozy and whimsical time of year. These don’t look like mean pumpkins to me.

But whether it’s due to the way they’re standing or how the light is hitting them, it really does look like they’ll suddenly get closer if we turn our backs for a second.

I’m not trying to come to play with them forever and ever and ever, thanks.
